Boreanaz, Hollywood come to West Chester

By Erin O'Hearn

June 15, 2007 - A piece of Westchester University's campus has been transformed into a movie set. Our Lady of Victory started filming back in May and features an all star cast... including homegrown David Boreanaz, son of our own Dave Roberts.

Boreanaz told Action News, "To come back and see my family and work here is more than I could ask for at this particular time."

Pat Croce and Tim Chambers' film company partnered with Philadelphia Film Office to make this move. It is based on the true Cinderella story of the Immaculate University women's basketball team and their inspiring journey to the 1972 national championship.

"An independent film made here in Philadelphia as opposed to a studio movie made in LA? Nah... We want it right here," said Pat Croce.

Carla Gugino plays coach Cathy Rush. Boreanaz plays her husband, Ed Rush.

In fact, Boreanaz tells us, "It just so happens that I knew Ed Rush. He used to take me to basketball games ... 6 degrees."

David isn't the only local talent cast in the film. Supporting actress Lauren Karl, who plays a student, was born and raised in Westchester. "I think it's great because it takes place here and I think Philadelphia has a lot people need to see," says Karl.

There has been a recent push from area leaders to make Philadelphia a destination for big screen productions. This crew says there's no better city.

As Croce puts it, "Night Shamylain started it. This city has everything!"

Boreanaz and the joy of socks

By Michael Klein
Inquirer Columnist

Actor David Boreanaz drew looks in West Chester on Thursday as he strolled East Gay Street in a sleeveless undershirt, lime-green boxers, and these hideous bright-green socks.
He was between takes of the film Our Lady of Victory, the tale of Immaculata's championship 1972 basketball team. Carla Gugino (Entourage) plays Mighty Macs coach Cathy Rush, who in this scene bursts into the bedroom to wake her husband, Ed (Boreanaz).

Boreanaz's socks, which have drawings of leprechauns and read "Luck of the Irish," are a tradition. The Villanova-raised actor thinks they've helped his charmed career (Angel, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Bones).

He picked them up in Ireland in 1997, and "I wear them on day one of every production," says Boreanaz, a Malvern Prep grad and son of 6ABC's Dave Roberts. "Have to be on."

Our Lady of Victory, written and directed by West Chester's Tim Chambers and exec-produced by Villanova's Pat Croce, will shoot all over the western suburbs through late June.
