Boreanaz Found An Angel With His Spiritual Canine Connection, Buddha.
David
Boreanaz has discovered awareness, purity and unconditional love in one furry
entity : Buddha. But the former vampire in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its spin-off,
Angel , turned grown-up, Bones star has not discovered a new religion, just an
unconditional canine confidant. To many, Buddha may be the symbol of an entire
faith, but to Boreanaz, Buddha is just "a great charming prince," and
his own Lab. Buddha's name is not inspired by the ancient religion, Boreanaz donned
him that due to striking similarities. "He is pretty chill
he's
got a Buddha belly when he rolls over, he's got that whole Buddha belly mentality." Buddha
was a gift from Boreanaz's wife over three years ago. She had rescued Buddha from
a kennel in the South, and since then Buddha and Boreanaz have developed a spiritual
bond.
Boreanaz was raised in a home without dogs and told Animal Fair "when
I moved out to California, that was the first thing I wanted to do was get a dog
and that's what I did." While his wife is also a proud dog owner
and spends her time with their Chihuahua named Rocky, Boreanaz prefers to hang
out and play catch with Buddha. It's a Chihuahua "lap dog" versus a
Lab "big dog.' Boreanaz comments on Buddha, "He is a Norman Rockwell
dog
a pure Alpha Male Dog." Buddha travels everywhere with the couple,
including his favourite vacation spot, a lake in Park City, Utah. "He loves
running in the lake, playing, and jumping with the ball. That's his favourite
thing to do. He loves to be outside, he's not a big fan of the pool, he's afraid
of the pool but he likes lakes. He loves adventure, he's a typical Lab." Buddha
even enjoys going on set with his famous Dad. "He'll sit by my chair and
just crash out. That's Buddha
he loves the grips. He loves chilling out
with the guys that are pulling the weight. He's just a great companion, lots of
love, a great friend, and a great soul." Boreanaz has always given
back to the animal community. The star has done work for PETA, Animal Sanctuary,
Farm Sanctuary and has recently been seen in Animal Fair's 8th Anniversary Calendar,
sponsored by Pedigree. On set Boreanaz continues to work with animals, "anything
from cows in some scenes to horses, chickens, birds, llamas, [and] all different
types of animals." Yet the only animal that has Boreanaz chanting his
praises is Buddha. "He's just a great dog and they say that you take on your
dog's persona. Buddha represents a lot of my spirit and I maintain a lot of his
spirit and try to live up this spirit." Perhaps Buddha is an inspirational
figure after all. --- Wendy Diamond
