TVGuide: As we mentioned, we have a great interview that, uh, Mike, and Angel and I conducted yesterday with Mr. David Boreanaz, the star of Bones on Fox, so let's, uh, take a listen to that.

TVG: All right, we're joined now by phone by, uh, Mr. David Boreanaz, the star of Bones, which now airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. on Fox. Welcome to the podcast, David.

David: Okay, thank you for having me.

TVG: Thank you for doing this, and uh, congratulations on, uh, the success this season, and also on getting picked up for season two, that's cool.

David: Thanks a lot, I appreciate it. A lot of hard work and, uh, y'know, dedication to getting a show going. Always takes time, and uh, y'know, we feel like we have a, a mix of great ensemble of characters that are really starting to kind of gel and get together, and uh, exciting time right now.

TVG: So you're heading into work right now, correct?

David: Yeah, I am. I'm -- I'm heading into work.

TVG: So are you going on location today? Can you tell us anything about what you're shooting today?

David: I'm on location today, we're working on... uh, we're on episode 20 right now, so we have this and two more left. Prob -- probably on the sixth day of the eighth day of -- of what it takes to shoot a particular episode, so today I'm gonna go, um, get some information from a lady in a trailer park with, uh, Brennan. *laughs* That's all I can say.

TVG: We -- we want spoilers, David. What's gonna happen on the finale, tell us.

David: (inaudible) Um, what is today's episode? Um, I'm so caught up in the next episode. We get... um, we find out a bit about Booth's past and we find out about, y'know, he probably had a bit of a gambling problem, we go back to his sniper days a bit, so there's a lot coming up that, uh, my mind is kinda wrapped around right now, so it's -- uh, but what we're going into right now is some basic kind of non-interrogation kind of a (plot?), it's, uh, kind of a funny episode.

TVG: What episode, um, will Booth and Bones be having sex?

David: *laughs* I'm sure they're already having sex in their minds right now.

TVG: *laughter* A, uh, more PC question, I wanna know if we'll ever get to see Booth's son again.

David: If the what?

TVG: We'll ever get to see Booth's son.

David: Oh yeah, I think we, y'know, I think that we'll touch base on that. I -- y'know because of the last two remaining shows, and I -- I think the last show that Hart is setting up is gonna be pretty amazing, and we... we might find out about some people that uh... that work in the lab, that, uh, the squints that aren't really, uh, truthful to their -- their purpose, so there's a l -- there's gonna be a lot of interesting things that's gonna happen, uh, and -- and seeing his son again, I -- it may touch on it, in the last episode, I think that we'll definitely, uh, he'll talk about it a lot in, uh, in the end of episode 21 in -- in reference to him going to Kosovo and having to take somebody out. Pretty intense moment for him, so we'll -- we'll mention it. Actually seeing him, I don't know for a fact yet.

TVG: Now you, you're really funny on the show, do you get any say over the dialogue, or is that all the writers?

David: Uh... well, we, uh, for me, it's uh, y'know, we work on weekends, Emily and I, and uh, we work with a -- a fantastic woman who's been kind of helping me shape this character from the beginning and who helps me with my work, and her name's Ivana Chubik (sp?), and she's just a phenomenal teacher and person that... what we do is we -- we kind of blend a lot of the sense of what's going on in my real life to Booth's character, but at the same time, y'know, I -- I like to improvise around the words and kind of round them out, and not make them so... uh... how should I say it, TV boring? *laughs*

TVG: Right.

David: -- do wanna bring an essence of reality to it, and realism (static) relate to, and that's what we're trying to do, and --

(dead air)

TVG: Uh oh. David, did we lose you?

David: I'm right here.

TVG: Oh, sorry! Whew! *laughter* You must have gone into a tunnel or something.

David: Uh, y'know, I'm now approaching the, uh --

TVG: There's no tunnels!

TVG: There's no tunnels in LA, I don't know.

TVG: What are you -- what are you approaching, and what's the make and model of your car, and license plate number? *laughter*

David: You want my, the make and model of my --

TVG: *laughter* And the license plate number and -- and your current location, please.

David: Y'know, they have, uh, machines that can do that now. I'm sure you can tap in, the way this whole internet thing is, it's kinda crazy, uh, there's spies all over the place.

TVG: What do you -- what do you think about stuff like that Gawker Stalker thing where there's like live real time sightings of celebrities posted on the web?

David: Well, uh, y'know, I don't really think too much about that kinda stuff. I -- y'know, I -- I tend to just kind of... let that stuff just kind of roll off... my thoughts. I -- y'know, I don't really look at it as... uh, it's kinda funny, but I don't... I don't think too much about that kind of stuff. I mean, my concern, really, is my, uh, my family, and my -- my work, and uh, y'know, my dog, and life. I mean, y'know, I was on the internet today, looking at some, uh, pretty gruesome sites from Iraq, and it put things in perspective for me, and I -- y'know, we're heading into -- I don't want to get too -- I don't want to get on a political box here, but, I mean we're heading into a war that, it's almost an -- as long as World War Two, it's pretty bad, so, y'know, I think that there's, uh, the world's in a pretty interesting, disturbing place, and, uh, y'know, we gotta kind of realize, y'know, that life is very short and you have to really kind of take the small, little moments in your life, whether it's a handshake or listening or just taking time to help somebody out, it's real important. *laughs* Get that?

TVG: (overlapping) Wow! *laughter* This is --

TVG: (overlapping) *laughter* Wow! Okay, that makes my next question seem very frivolous, so...

TVG: But go ahead and ask it.

TVG: No, I wanted to know if you get a chance to do a lot of your own stunts, like, uh, when you -- *laughs*

TVG: That is frivolous.

TVG: (overlapping) That is -- that is very frivolous. David is trying to talk about something serious, and you're asking --

TVG: (overlapping) I know! I'm like I can't believe that's what I have to ask him next!

David: (overlapping) Trust me, man, me -- me and Brennan are gonna be doin' it on top of her lab.

TVG: *laughter* We're gonna quote you on that! That's gonna be on our site tomorrow, David, come on.

TVG: I was thinking more of like your stunts when you were like hanging from the ropes when you were going underground.

David: Well, like that we did -- that was a digitally affected shot, but we were actually hoisted up about forty feet in the air, so it was pretty high. And -- and that was more crunching on your nuts than anything else, so that was painful. I mean, y'know, literally... y'know, I'm Italian so that's... that's a big package there to crunch.

TVG: *laughter* I see another headline tomorrow. All righty. And David, is -- is Booth, uh, closer to who you are personally than some other characters you may have played in the past?

David: No... y'know, I don't -- I mean, I think that every character that I'm gonna kinda take on, there's always gonna be a reference to my past characters, y'know, I mean, I was very fortunate to... be in a series with Buffy, and Joss, and then, y'know, have my own spinoff, with Angel, and, uh, y'know, everyone was, y'know, and the other characters I've played in some, y'know smaller films, some films that, y'know, will hopefully make it out this year. *laughs*

TVG: *laughter*

David: Uh, to me, it's... truly taking a character on that kind of fits in your life and what's going on. So there are some resemblances. There are... I mean, I think that each of -- I think Booth is, to be honest with you, he's a bit... reserved -- I gotta get pulled back sometimes on stuff I do, so I mean he's a -- I would say about 65% of me, and then there's even more of, uh, me that's a bit crazy and wild that people haven't seen yet, which is kinda interesting to hold on to and expose that later on in my career.

TVG: Yeah, we definitely want to see the wild side.

David: Yeah, you will, baby.

TVG: (overlapping) *laughter* Um...

TVG: (overlapping) *laughter* On film, David, on film.

TVG: Well, you never know. Um, are you helping you're own -- old friends get jobs? Or is it just a coincidence?

David: What -- what's that?

TVG: Are you helping your old friends get jobs, or is it just a coincidence? It seems like I've seen a couple people from your... previous shows lately.

David: Well, y'know, I -- well, I mean I know Adam was on. Adam Baldwin was on, and y'know, that was somebody I recommended because I thought he'd be great for the character, and, uh, y'know, uh... that's -- that's the only one I remember who was on.

TVG: Uh, David... Denman? Wasn't he on... wasn't he Skip as well?

David: I don't -- oh -- oh yeah, yeah, yeah, you know what, you're right!

TVG: You didn't recognize him without all the makeup, that's understandable.

David: No, no, no, you're right, he was, um, he was just recently on.

TVG: Yeah.

David: Just -- just a small -- small, little, y'know, uh, little role he came on. Yeah, that was pretty trippy to see him, I hadn't seen him in a long time.

TVG: What are you going to do over the hiatus, David?

David: Yeah -- uh, well, y'know, I -- I don't know, I -- I think I'm gonna get some plastic surgery done... (inaudible) out here, I dunno. *laughs*

TVG: That's okay, we're not -- we're not judging you right now.

TVG: Are you gonna be on Doctor 90210?

David: No, I'm gonna go... uh... I dunno, I did a movie over the Christmas break called Suffering Man's Charity with Alan Cummings and he directed it and that was really -- I'm really tired, so -- I -- there's a couple things that I may try and fit into the small window of... hiatus that they call, but... because we're ending so late and starting so soon, it's like, I can't really do anything that -- that nuts, or intense, so that's the downside of one hour drama, is that you don't really have much time to kinda do anything, so I may just -- just chill out, or I -- I'm not really pressed for anything now, I'll just kind of see what happens. There's a couple things that -- that's a possiblity that I might be doing, but nothing, uh, right now, that's, uh, solid or solidified.

TVG: You know, David, there were -- there was a rumor going around that you were up for one of the big roles in Fantastic Four, and I have to ask, y'know, now that it's widely considered one of the worst movies Hollywood has ever churned out, are you sort of relieved that, y'know, that didn't really work out?

David: Well, I, uh... y'know, I was, uh, I was up for, um, the big orange rock.

TVG: The Thing.

David: Thing, baby, yeah, so it was, uh, I -- I went and I tested, and it was a great experience, and, uh, y'know I think they kinda hip-pocketed me. I think they -- they were kind of figuring out Chiklis's schedule, and, uh, they were covering their backs, I mean, it -- it was, y'know, it was one of those roles that -- look, uh, y'know, things happen for a reason. I -- I heard it's pretty hard to be in that suit for so long, and, uh, I mean, he had to like, talk to a shrink, and... it was pretty heavy. Like, he -- his call time was like 1 a.m. when everyone else was like at 8 in the morning, and it's like, you can't go to the bathroom in that thing, it's like heavy... who wants to be known for, y'know, an orange rock. I -- I don't know... so, y'know, these things work out, and -- and y'know, it was a -- it was a possibility that -- that was gonna happen, and, y'know, uh... y'know, Chiklis did a great job, I loved him, so, it -- it's just one of those things that... I think you -- I think you're destined for -- I think -- I think casting an actor -- they all -- it all takes care of itself, there's -- there's certain roles you wanna play, you kinda go after, and you don't get 'em, and then somebody else gets them, and you realize why you didn't get 'em, because it's just -- it's just, uh, I take -- I take it as... as just running with it and just seeing what happens, and being in the right place at the right time, and have -- being lucky, all that has a lot to do with it, so... you -- you don't know why you get certain roles, and you get 'em, and -- and then you make something of it. that's -- that's the beauty of the process for me.

TVG: I think it worked out for the best.

David: Oh, thanks. *laughs*

TVG: I still have nightmares about the two hours I wasted in the movie theater watching that piece of crap.

TVG: (overlapping) Michael!

TVG: (overlapping) Yeah, you dodged a bullet there, David. uh, David, looking back, uh, on the first season of Bones, are -- is -- are you surprised in any way by, uh, how your character developed? And did he go in a way you didn't expect when you first signed on?

David: No -- I -- I -- I had a pre -- I had a game plan going in for this season, uh, with Booth, and I -- I accomplished that and then some with, as far as where I wanted... the writers, Hart Hanson and Stephen Nathan, and Barry are very accommodating, as to listening to your ideas and incorporating them, not just listening to them and going, 'oh, great', and then not doing anything about it. There's actually a... a response from the other end, and there's something that -- it's -- that's to be said about that, the creative process, so, y'know, I took Booth to places that I would love to have gone a little bit farther with, but I -- we're gonna do that towards the end of the season, and, um... so for right now, I'm very pleased with him, and I think, y'know, there -- are -- the relationship between me and -- me and her is just really starting to click, uh, y'know, it -- it -- it -- it took a lot of time, the -- y'know, there were (static) struggles in the early beginnings of the show, uh, just getting a show off the ground, and finding an audience, and y'know, I couldn't be happier at the fact that they're allowing the characters to really drive the show, 'cause if it was just another really straight out procedural procedural, I -- I -- I don't know if I could do that, to be honest with you. I -- I... right from the start, they were open to us, y'know, evolving these characters, having them do crazy stuff, and I -- to me, that's -- that's -- that's -- that's -- that's an hour of interesting watching, isn't it? *laughs*

TVG: And -- and -- David, finally, you mentioned the web before, do you -- do you bother reading what fans are saying about your character or about the show at all? And -- and, y'know, reading what their -- their reactions are to each episode?

David: Um, I -- I've been on the, uh, the Bones website before. I've scrolled, uh, I've taken into some of their thoughts, and I've -- I've listened to it and I've always passed 'em on to the creators, or, y'know, how can we make this better, or how can we -- how can we do this, y'know, is there any way of, y'know, maybe changing this, what works, or what doesn't work, and, y'know, a -- a lot of the times, the -- they could be right, a lot of the times, they could be wrong, but that's with anything, so you kinda just let -- let that thing kind of flow, but I've -- I've been to the Bones website, and I've -- been on the discussion boards and listened to some of their comments. They're pretty funny. *laughs*

TVG: You ever been tempted to post something?

David: No, no, I wouldn't do that... I -- look, listen, I get too afraid to do that, I figure they'd get your... number or something, or figure --

TVG: Or your license plate number.

David: Yeah. Y'know, uh, which is A415 --

TVG: *laughter*

TVG: Well, David, thank you so much for all your time today, we really appreciate it.

David: Oh, man, I, uh, I appreciate -- I love talking to you guys.

TVG: All right, thank you and let's remind our audience to, uh, tune into Bones, uh, Wednesdays at 8 p.m. on Fox.

David: -- much, and, uh, we're looking forward to, uh, give -- putting out, uh, a really great end to the season.

TVG: (overlapping) Awesome.

TVG: (overlapping) Excellent.

TVG: Well, good luck on filming today, David, and thank you so much.

David: Talk to you guys soon.

TVG: (overlapping) All right, take care, David, bye bye.

TVG: (overlapping) Take care, bye bye.

TVG: (overlapping) Bye.

TVG: All right, that was David Boreanaz, who I thought was very chatty and very loose once he got going.

TVG: Yeah, thanks for letting me have to do the follow up question to the Iraq war story, though. *laughs* (overlapping) I really appreciate that.

TVG: (overlapping) That was pretty funny.

TVG: Yeah, that -- that is hard to follow up on. And just for the record, the Iraq War has not gone on as long as World War Two, yet.

TVG: Did you look into that?

TVG: I didn't have to look into it, I know that World War Two has been six years.

TVG: He's a history buff in his spare time.

TVG: I don't even think you need to be a history buff, Angel. Maybe a History Channel buff is -- is all you need to be.

TVG: I dunno, people are always rewriting history, you never know, y'know...

TVG: That's true.

The following is at the very end of the podcast:

TVG: And let's thank David Boreanaz, our man from Bones, and a show we're not allowed to mention, but we'll mention anyway, Angel, uh, for doing the show, uh, check him out Wednesdays, 8 p.m. on Fox.
