PRODUCTION COMPANIES EXECUTIVE PRODUCERS CREATOR CAST From executive producers Hart Hanson, Barry Josephson and Stephen Nathan comes the fourth exciting season of BONES, a darkly amusing procedural with humor, heart and character, inspired by real-life forensic anthropologist and novelist Kathy Reichs. DR. TEMPERANCE BRENNAN (Emily Deschanel) is a highly skilled forensic anthropologist who works at the Jeffersonian Institute in Washington, DC, and writes novels as a sideline. When the standard methods of identifying a body are useless when the remains are so badly decomposed, burned or destroyed that CSI gives up law enforcement calls in Brennan for her uncanny ability to read clues left behind in the victims bones. Most law enforcement cant handle Brennans intelligence, her drive for the truth, or the way she flings herself headlong into every investigation. SPECIAL AGENT SEELEY BOOTH (David Boreanaz) of the FBIs Homicide Investigations Unit is the exception. A former Army sniper, Booth mistrusts science and scientists the squints, as he calls them who pore over the physical evidence of a crime. But even he cannot deny that the combination of his people-smarts and Brennans scientific acumen makes them a formidable team. Aside from Booth, Brennan is most comfortable with her equally brilliant colleagues at the Jeffersonians Medico-Legal Lab. ANGELA MONTENEGRO (Michaela Conlin), an artist who specializes in reconstructing facial features and crime scenes, is Brennans earthy and bawdy best friend; the bug guy, conspiracy theorist DR. JACK HODGINS (TJ Thyne), is an expert on insects, spores and minerals; and DR. CAMILLE CAM SAROYAN (Tamara Taylor), the street-smart and centered coroner, must wrangle all the geniuses under her purview. Lending his professional expertise to Brennan and Booth is DR. LANCE SWEETS (John Francis Daley), a brilliant young psychologist who is equally adept at profiling murderers and providing couples therapy to Booth and Brennan. Season four of BONES finds Booth and Brennan dealing with changes among the squints as well as in their own relationship, and a revolving group of grad students pitch in to help them solve murders. BONES is from Far Field Productions and Josephson Entertainment
DIGGING UP MORE SEASON THREE 'BONES' WITH DAVID BOREANAZ The actor reveals additional info on the last six episdoes of the hit drama which begin airing tonight on FOX By SEAN ELLIOTT, Senior Editor BONES is returning to FOX with all new episodes starting tonight, April 14th at 8/7 C. iF MAGAZINE was lucky enough to be a part of a phone interview which David Boreanaz did with members of the press. The actor/producer talked about how the season has changed due to the writer's strike and what other interesting twists can be expected as the series returns. Boreanaz promises a resolution to the overreaching serial killer arc, but not necessarily the original ending as it was intended due to problems caused by the production being halted during the strike. I think the whole aspect of the serial killer storyline was effected in how and when we will wrap that up, which is pretty much part of a two-parter that we shot before the writers strike which was a potential season ender which was dangerous and detrimental to a particular character and the second part we finished that up in a way that will keep the audience guessing, he explains. So, were keeping that show and were adding another part to that show. It serves two purposes since we shot that in the event of a wash of a season, now that we can at least get some fresh episodes in we can continue off that. While the serial killer storyline was a new direction for the series, Boreanaz is not fond of the storyline and is more focused on the individual crime episodes that allow his and Emily Deschanels characters to grow. For me Ive always maintained that the show is about relationships and I have always maintained that its about the characters, the two of us learning through the crimes and that journey we take, Boreanaz explains. In fact the actor also relies on that relationship between the characters to get through some of the more emotional material that the actors have to deal with on a day to day basis. I tap into the relationship with Brennan and Booth if it gets too crazy, says the actor. Theres the flip side of the show thats darker and more horrific compared to the relationship where we go to a crime scene and banter and then stop and realize that its pretty heavy stuff we are looking at. There is a fine line and its an interesting balance for our show. Anything to do with children is difficult and they can be quite horrific, but you just block that out. Im so tuned into my relationship with Bones that I sometimes forget where Im at and its ok to be squeamish around the bodies because Booth is kind of squeamish. The relationship between the two characters often times seems so natural that the lines might appear to some to be improvised, but Boreanaz says that the interaction comes from intensive rehearsals that when the actual filming takes place lead to some more loosely interpreted lines. We work on scripts during the weekends so we come in at the beginning of the week with a sort of improvisational arc and we know where were going to add stuff, he laughs. By the time we show up to rehearse and were shooting, we just throw it all down on the table and a lot of that stuff comes out, but I think thats the beauty of our relationship and our chemistry is only getting better. However, Booths therapy sessions do afford the actor more of a chance to improvise in his work. A lot of the lines are his own and he says he is constantly trying to come up with new and more creative material. Well do a lot of improvisation when I am in the therapy sessions and they try to get me to one take that is at least kind of scripted, but it's fun being in that situation and having that freedom, laughs Boreanaz. A lot of the age comments towards Dr. Sweets are mine, so I need to come up with some new stuff. Some new arsenal is coming out soon. His character was created primarily from his own sources within. While he did study FBI procedure, he threw most of that out of the window and used his own character development. He does cite some outside sources, but most of the character of Booth was a completely original creation. I was given the pilot and I read the pilot and I created everything that you see on screen, he says. It cant happen without the words obviously, but as far the physicality and the belt buckle and all of that stuff I brought to the character. Everything that they told me about the FBI I threw out the door in a lot of ways. I respected it, but I took the military aspect of the guy working for the FBI rather than a guy who came right out of Harvard who wears penny loafers and gets kicked around a lot. For me it was a lot more interesting to be the military guy who was a blue collar guy and from there everything exploded. I highly respect what the FBI does, and when it comes to using any firearms or entries into buildings, I do it as cleanly and professionally as I can. I do it as close to the way they do it as I can. I work with a great guy Mike Rosso on the show, who is with the L.A. P.D. and hes awesome, but the other stuff is character work that I like to bring to the show. While Boreanaz is a producer on BONES as well as being an actor, he does have a desire to write and direct upcoming episodes of the series in future seasons. He states that he is in the perfect situation to take advantage of there unique opportunity. Its a great opportunity
to embrace and you have fun with an episode, he explains. I have no
idea what episode that will be, but Ive pitched a lot of ideas. I would
like to be a part of the fruition of an idea and maybe even put my pen to paper
and do some writing, but those are the opportunities that you have to take advantage
of and use them. If you are in the medium and you have an opportunity to do then
you should go for it. I think theres got to be a balance there and its difficult to direct oneself, he states. Its a challenge to act and direct yourself in the same thing. Ive done it before, and I dont focus on it, I just do it and see what happens. On the topic of the much rumored England episodes for the series, and the actor states that while they will not be taking place this season, there is at least a good chance they may be in the future season, as well as the possibility of brining back a certain British actor to the series. As far as future episodes, since were only getting six in now, we may be shooting in a different part of the world, the actor says. Who knows that may be a possibility. There have been some talks about shooting [in England] and Im pretty confident that the trips will come somewhere for a couple of shows and thats the exciting part. As far as Stephen Fry coming back to the show would be great because he was a really great character and he was great to work with and seeing him interact with Sweets if possible would be great! The actor also dropped one more interesting bombshell in stating, I may dance with the AMERICAN IDOL stars. David Boreanaz talks about Bones Posted Apr 11th 2008 3:41PM by Jen Creer - TV Squad.com Admit it: You all want to know what's like to talk to David Boreanaz, AKA, Angel from Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel, AKA, Special Agent Seeley Booth from Bones. I'd like to know what it is like to talk to him too, but one of the things about these conference calls is that you are instructed to hit two keys to queue up for your question, and I always hit them, but I never get selected to ask questions. I do, however, now know what it is like to listen to David Boreanaz talk on the phone, so I guess that's something, right? He sounds just like Booth. Go figure. If you are a longterm fan of Boreanaz, I'd have to guess that either he did the phone call in character as Booth or that Boreanaz is a lot more like the sometimes-abrasive Booth than the brooding and circumspect Angel. On the whole Boreanaz gave stock answers to questions. He was friendly and joked about Celebrity Football predictions and sports: he was on the phone in New York City at the NHL building during the call. However, one caller made the mistake of hearing that, because of Bones moving to Monday nights on FOX at 8 PM ET, Bones was a "bubble" show, which I guess is industry-speak for the show being on the verge of cancellation. Boreanaz zeroed in on the guy like he was a murder suspect on Bones: "Where did you hear that? No, wait a minute, you can't just throw something like that out there and then tell me you don't remember where you heard it. That would be like me saying, 'Hey, I heard your column is canceled, but I don't know where I heard that." He continued to challenge the fellow's professionalism in reporting a rumor without a solid source for it, while the guy stammered that he reads from a lot of different sources. During the grilling, I thought, "Damn, Boreanaz is kind of a dick." But he was absolutely right: The guy should have known where he heard it before broaching the subject during an interview with an actor on the show. Live and learn. I know that not all of us calling in are professional journalists -- some of us sit around in our pajamas and blog -- but it was still a good lesson. The caller apologized profusely and then Boreanaz returned to his charm and told the guy it was okay, that he had just had an interview with Dave Schultz, so he was all fired up. Boreanaz also reported that all of Booth's characterizations come directly from him, rather than the writing, including the belt buckles, socks, and flashy ties. He said that apart from procedures involving guns or entering buildings, which he aims to do flawlessly and as much like the FBI as possible, he has tossed out the rulebook regarding FBI personalities, and emphasizes Booth's military and blue collar background as much as possible. Regarding talk of the strike and the show's move to a different time slot, Boreanaz towed the party line of, "I am an actor. I'm not involved in those decisions." I get the impression that his role as a producer on the show is much more along the lines of creative input and control about his character and how much he is allowed to improv than it is about the actual production of the show itself. He said about the now infamous kiss from "The Santa in the Slush" episode that he liked the fact that the kiss was a dare, really, that Caroline Julian put them up to. However, it would also serve to bring the characters closer because they would know that the kiss had happened. Boreanaz foresees some episodes occurring in England, with a possible return of Stephen Fry's therapist character. He will also take the opportunity to direct at some point, and he said, "I have also put the pen to paper, and done some writing." He thinks if opportunities for actors to direct arise, artists have to take advantage of them. Interestingly, the season finale, which will be a two-part cliffhanger, has already been filmed and was filmed, in fact, before the writer's strike. I got the impression that more is being added, though, because of adjustments to the Widow's Son storyline that had to be made due to time restrictions from the strike. Breaking News: DAVID BOREANAZ & THE REST OF THE NEW EPISODES OF 'BONES' Some interesting endings and ammened events due to the writers strike have changed the season By SEAN ELLIOTT, Senior Editor LOCATION:

Season 4 Renewal, Possible Foreign Location David Boreanaz and "Bones" creator Hart Hanson report that the series has just received its season 4 renewal for 20 episodes -- with the popular Fox network show looking likely to location abroad next season. "Some of the contenders are Spain, Monaco, Italy -- it just depends on how it gets put together," Hanson says of the show, which also stars Emily Deschanel.
First, however, there's season 3 to complete. "Bones" heads back into its post-WGA-strike production Tuesday (March 25) to shoot six more episodes for the current season -- and will return to the air with fresh episodes April 14. This is Boreanaz's first season as one of the series' producers, although he says, "I feel like I've been doing that for some time. This is the first season I've been credited. It's great to step into those shoes and be more involved on the creative side with specific scenes, characters, the actualities of locations..." Last year, he'd thought it might give him a little more leeway in scheduling for himself. That's not how it's turned out. "The more responsibilities you have, the more you're grinding it out and working it. I'm actually busier now. I'm not scheduling myself out of any episodes. This has enabled me to do more things, expand my horizons, meet other people, make more impact." Boreanaz also tells us that he and Emily continue to work on their characters with famed acting coach Ivana Chubbuck on weekends. "We explore the relationship between these two. The more we work on it, the more we come up with what I call 'movie moments,' as opposed to TV moments. I think you have to continuously work like that, whether it's the first episode, the 15th or the 68th."
