If you didn't know already Fightstar are Charlie Simpson, Alex Westaway, Dan Haigh and Omar Abidi. In this section you can read about their History together as a band and as friends.

They have been together since 2003, after Alex first met Charlie when his sister moved in with Charlie's girlfriend Camilla. Alex went to school with Dan and had previously played in a few bands together before going their separate ways. Dan played in Blind Oppression, Infliction, 4 Day Week before moving on to video game design where he was responsible for Quake 2 'Oblivion' and Quake 3 'Revolution'.

Alex was also in other bands, upon his return to London he met Charlie at a party, he called upon Dan and also Omar who was an old friend and as they plainly say "the rest is history"

They played their first gig at a radio station in Northampton while Charlie was still with the pop band Busted, because of this it was very hard for them to get together and play and also start recording the EP that they had planned, Charlie was jetting about playing huge stadiums while the other guys worked on their song writing and music.
On the 14th January Charlie announced that he would be quitting Busted as he felt that the time had come to move on.

"I was 15 when the Busted thing came along - it was a laugh, it was two guys that seemed like they just wanted to have fun. I was at school, the opportunity came along, and I just thought, 'whatever, I'll just take it - what could happen?'. And it suddenly exploded into this huge thing. And I thought to myself, nothing really matters to me apart from my artistic happiness. It sounds corny, but at the end of the day, I could have made as much money with Busted as there was to make, but that didn't interest me"

Fightstar kicked off their UK tour the same day Charlie announced that he had split from Busted, the gig quickly sold out and was a huge success apart from one person who hurled a paint covered teddy hitting Charlie in the face. Although this happened Charlie carried on with Al, Dan and Omar and proved to all the critics that Fightstar are great live and won't take any shit!

Dan directed the video for Palahniuk's Laughter, which was done on a rumored budget of about £7000 and hit the TV channels fast. The EP was recorded with Mark Williams, containing 5 tracks + 1 hidden it hit the stores on the 28th Feb.

It was a huge success and quickly sold out in almost every store across the country, there are no plans for it to be re-released either, leaving some fans without a copy.

There have been many single releases which include Paint Your Target, Waste A Moment, Deathcar, Mercury Summer and A City On Fire, all the singles include some awesome b-side which include covers from the Deftones and The Cure!

Since then they have gone from strength to strength releasing a further 3 albums, Grand Unification in 2006 and One Day Son, This Will Be All Yours which was released in 2007 and Be Human which was released in 2009. They also recently released a B-Sides Album called Alternate Endings which includes previously unreleased tracks!

The have been many tours and many festivals played including Download, Greenbelt and Offset. Things are looking very good for Fightstar and we all at Fightstar.org hope they achieve everything the deserve to over the coming years, here's to the future!

The Observer:
"Some might also say they're easily as good as Franz Ferdinand, but a bit more fey and slightly better looking."

Drowned In Sound:
"Slick grunge rockers…who sound like Bush trying to write an old-school Radiohead tune whilst receiving a savage beating from Soundgarden"

A few fast Facts:
Where do they hail from?
Based in London, but originally Charlie is from Ipswich, Alex from Northampton, Dan is from Grimsby and Omar is from London!

Is there going to be an album?
Where have you been??? There are currently 3 albums out and also a B-Sides album!

What is the hidden track called on the EP?
Hazy Eyes

Why didn't the EP chart?
They made the EP to be Chart ineligible, being long to be a single and too short to be an Album. They did not wish it to end up in the top ten, although it did fly off the shelves when released on the 28th Feb selling roughly 3000+ copies on the first day. And selling out completely by the first week of release.

Where can I download the EP?
You can download the EP from itunes and other good digital stores.

What about the songs that are not on the EP?
As of yet, Make Me, To Close To The Sun and Too Much Punch have not been released so therefore are not available to download/buy.

Why Palahniuk's Laughter?
Named after Chuck Palahniuk who wrote Fightclub and originally it was name "Out Swimming In The Flood" but due to the Tsunami disaster the guys renamed it out of respect for all of those who lost their lives that day.
